Workshop: Architecture-based Maintainability (ArchMain 2010)
The maintainability of software is a long established research field. It is long known, that the maintenance costs of existing software heavily exceed the costs of newly developed software. However, most investigations in software maintainability are concerned with the maintainability of code and designs. This is in contrast to the insight, that the maintainability of the software is strongly influenced by its architecture. Therefore, the workshop "Architecture-based Maintainability (ArchMain 2010)" at the FZI in Karlsruhe, Germany, is concerned with the scientific investigation of the influence of architectures on software. It is clear, that the maintainance of the architectural models itself is of lower concern (as the movement of boxes in diagrams does not create considerable costs), hence we want to coin the term "Architecture-based Maintainability". However, the way a software system is structured into components and distributed to hardware resources heavily influences the costs of performing change scenarios on the software.
The ArchMain workshop will discuss topics such as
- maintenance cost prediction with architectures
- trade-offs between maintenance and other quality attributes
- metrics for architecture-based software maintenance
- maintainability of service oriented systems
- maintainability by design
The workshop is by invitation only.
