The Information Process Engineering (IPE) research group at FZI is now offering you an interesting study in the field of Semantic Search Technologies

Search is one of the main tasks performed online, and yet often it doesn’t work as well as it should. Take, for example, the common experience of “back-clicking,” when a user has to return to the results page several times before finding the information she’s looking for. According to a 2009 comScore survey, 30 percent of searches are abandoned in frustration, and two-thirds of the rest required users to refine their queries before getting the desired result.

Semantic search aims to overcome these problems and improve the accuracy of search result by understanding user’s intent, analyzing the searchable dataspace and index it with the rich and expressive semantic information. Novel techniques of knowledge management and learning are required to bring the credibility and personalization to the ever-increasing search results.

Aim of the study

This study extends an existing semantic search framework at FZI with a new retrieval model to incorporate structured representations of data that are increasingly common on the Web recently (http://linkeddata.org/). It is based on the probabilistic retrieval models that are widespread in classical Web search. More information can be found on:
