Catherina Burghart studied Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe. She then worked in robot assisted surgery at the Institute of Process Control and Robotics. She received her PhD in July 1999 on robot assisted ostonomy. She then headed a group on human machine interaction and participated in the German Humanoid Project. She finished her habilitation on December 10th 2007; she wrote her second book on the interaction between human and intelligent robotic system.

Since January 2009 Catherina Burghart is a member of the FZI. Here, she manages the BMWI research project Theseus.
