Marcus Strand studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Karlsruhe from 1996 to 2002. He specialized in the fields of industrial automation and robotics. From 2002 to 2008 he worked as scientific assistant at the Institute for Computer Science (CSE) at University of Karlsruhe in the fields of 3D computer vision, data fusion and navigation of autonomous systems. He received his phd in 2008 with the thesis "3D Environment Modelling based on dense depth images". Since December 2008 he is employed as a member of the scientific staff of the group Interactive Diagnosis and Service Systems (IDS) at the FZI (Forschungszentrum Informatik at the University of Karlsruhe (TH)).  His research interests are in the fields of mobile navigation and localisation.
Since December 2009 he is leading the department Technical Cognitive Assistance Systems (TKS).
