Peter Weiß is department manager and team leader in the research group Business Process Engineering and Management (BPEM) in the research division Software Engineering (SE).

He received his doctorate in Applied Informatics from the University of Karlsruhe (TH) (now KIT Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) in 2005. Prior to joining AIFB he was leading the international relations office at FZI.

Peter Weiß is member of the CEN/ISSS Workshop on ICT Skills (since 2004) and had been member of the expert working group “ICT Certification in Europe” (since 2008). Since 2010 he acts as expert for DIN e.V. in the national standards commitee "Learning Technologies" (NA 043) and IT steering commitee "IT-Professionals" for cert-IT.

He was scientific co-ordinator of Harmonise project team, invited guest editor of a special issue on ICT certification for UPGRADE Journal in 2007, invited speaker of the European e-Skills Conference in 2006 and 2008, and co-author of a European survey of ICT certification for CEPIS/Cedefop published in 2006.

His current research interest are e-business process for industrial services (e.g. maintenance services), hollistic business process analysis and standardisation, enterprise interoperability, flexible architectures for supplier integration, classification system eCl@ss (focus on classification on industrial services), e-business standards, skill/competence models and systems, certification for IT professionals.
