TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe: ExpoSession in Stockholm

On 9-12 June 2019, the international public transport community, mobility decision makers and industry suppliers will come together in Stockholm for the UITP Global Public Transport Summit.

Below you will find the topics for the 11th of June:

Karlsruhe’s ecosystem: The Innovation spirit of the Karlsruhe Technology Region

The presentation will show how the trusted collaboration within a regional innovation system has led to the high economic and innovation performance of the Karlsruhe Technology Region in the field of mobility.

The Karlsruhe Technology Region is an open innovation environment with strong players from industry, science and local government. TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH (TRK) as a company bundles the competences and resources of these players and triggers new collaborative projects for the development, testing and launching of market-ready products and services, such as the Test Area Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg (TAF-BW) and regiomove.

Jochen Ehlgötz, Managing Director, TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH, Karlsruhe, Germany

Everything is connected: regiomove, an intermodal mobility platform for the Karlsruhe Region

How can we make our transport systems more sustainable? How can we strengthen the connection between rural and urban areas in our region? How can the existing public and private transport systems be integrated? regiomove offers a holistic, regional approach to these challenges. Started in 2017, under the leadership of the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (KVV), the project aims at creating a new mobility platform consisting of public and private mobility providers to offer users a seamless mobility- and service chain from a single source. A team of researchers, municipalities, IT specialists and mobility providers are working on a new technological and legal framework for the future of mobility in the Karlsruhe Region. The speaker will introduce the concept and current results of the project.

Maren Mayer de Groot, Project Manager regiomove, Regionalverband Mittlerer Oberrhein, Karlsruhe, Germany

An open and tailor-made intermodal real-time trip planner

PTV has developed the dynamic and intermodal trip planner for the comprehensive information system of regiomove. HyperPath combines e.g. private and public transport, parking and car sharing, based on real-time information, forecasts, and events. It considers specific city needs (e.g. preferred routes) and integrates existing mobility portals. Traffic managers can insert events, decide routing strategies to positively influence traffic.

Integrated booking platforms as backbone of seamless mobility solutions

Open Mobility Platforms pool several mobility services. But they can only be used seamlessly, if they integrate into a single planning and booking platform. INIT delivers the booking platform for regiomove and will explain how the data and systems from different partners are integrated into a seamless mobility solution. As a result, the users experience only one front end, can enjoy travel suggestions based on their preferences and receive one bill at the end of the month for all intermodal services used.

Ports – transforming intermodality into physical infrastructure

Ports is a crucial part project of regiomove, as interfacing between modes and different services requires hubs and service points that are designed to function perfectly in terms of intermodality. Planning and design of the infrastructure and equipment of intermodal hubs, access points and surrounding road space as well as the physical interconnection of all kind of mobility services including non-motorized transport will be essential and require innovative thinking in a classical engineering field.

Dr. Rainer Schwarzmann, Managing Director, TransportTechnologie-Consult Karlsruhe (TTK), Karlsruhe, Germany

Enabling autonomous public transport

Autonomous shuttles promise to increase comfort and hence acceptance of public transport by cost-efficiently connecting the last mile to public transport hubs. In order to pave their way for reliable operation in complex urban settings, environmental challenges such as traffic scenarios, pedestrians, and weather conditions have to be handled in a predictable and safe way. We demonstrate technologies for their test and safe operation in real mixed traffic at the Test Area Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg.

Dr. Alexander Viehl, Division Manager, Intelligent Systems and Production Engineering, FZI Research Center for Information Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany

The Karlsruhe mobility research landscape

The talk gives a brief overview of Karlsruhe’s research into seamless mobility systems: the institutions, their fields of activity and large-scale projects. Topics investigated in a systems of systems approach range from user needs and travel demand via the systemic interaction of traffic participants and infrastructure up to technology development in fields like automation and alternative propulsion systems (e.g. regenerative fuels and electric mobility). This sets the base for further enhancements of approaches like regiomove towards seamless mobility.

Dr.-Ing. Matthias Pfriem, Cluster Manager, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Germany
