Werdegang

At the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Mischa Ahrens studied Chemical and Process Engineering from 2009 to 2013 and Energy Technology from 2014 to 2017. During his studies, he took particular interest in the areas of renewable energy, chemical fuels and energy storage. In 2014 and 2015, he worked as a student assistent and later as a research assistent at different KIT Institutes. His work comprised the participation in the advancement of the bioliq® process, developed at KIT Campus Nord, the implementation and analysis of rheological experiments and software development in the context of burner flame analysis. In his Master thesis "Optimization of Battery Energy Storage Systems in Smart Buildings" he worked on the optimization of battery charging in smart buildings with energy generation capacities.

From 2017 to 2018, Mischa Ahrens worked as a research associate at the Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at KIT. There, he worked on methods for minimizing the communication overhead in smart grids.

Since 2018, he has been working as a research associate at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in the research area Intelligent Systems and Production Engineering (ISPE), where he is working on improving the resilience of power distribution grids by exploiting the energy flexibility of smart buildings.
