M.Sc. Pascal Becker

Research Scientist

Werdegang

Pascal Becker studied Computer Science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 2009 to 2017.
The bachelor's degree focused on telematics and computer architectures and was completed with a thesis on optical data transmission between an embedded device and a smartphone.
In the master's programme, the focus was on robotics and automation as well as cognitive systems. In the course of the studies, the students took part in an exchange with Aalto Universiy, Finland and delved into the topics around Artificial Intelligence. The final master thesis dealt with the control of robots by Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) in combination with reinforcement learning.

Since March 2017 Pascal Becker has been working as a research assistant in the department Interactive Diagnostic and Service Systems (IDS). He deals with the Robot Operating System (ROS) and has been responsible for several demonstrators recently.

In addition to development work for various industrial customers, he is involved in the combination of 3D printing and robotics as part of his doctorate. Modern concepts of robotics are combined in additive manufacturing in order to reduce manual work steps as far as possible. At the same time, sensor systems are used on the printer and in the printing process to detect errors at an early stage. This allows parameters to be adjusted or the user to be notified. This reduces the error rate, material waste and health hazards for employees, as they have to spend significantly less time near the printers.
