Focus on Mobility – Open House Day at KIT

Exhibitions, hands-on-activities, expert lectures, research projects up close and a knowledge rally for kids: On Saturday, June 29, 2019, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) organises its open house day on the Campus East. Between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., visitors can dive into the wonderful world of science. Additionally, they can demonstratively inform themselves about current research projects of KIT. This year, the focus of the day is set on the topic of mobility.

“We as KIT are strongly interconnected with the City of Karlsruhe, its people and the social life. Therefore, we are always pleased to open our doors and to invite Karlsruhe’s inhabitants as well as interested persons from near and far, to take a look into the laboratories and over the shoulder of our experts. As is known: Research, science and innovation are put at the service of society at KIT,” says the President of KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka. And adds: “The Open House Day focuses on mobility this year, however, we will also present numerous further research focuses and institutes of KIT – and the people behind it. We are looking forward to presenting all of this to the visitors.”

On the premises of the Campus East at the Rintheimer Querallee, numerous institutes of KIT are researching on topics of mobility and traffic. Researchers interdisciplinaryly develop solutions for our future mobility. They integrate the means of transport for passengers and freight as well as research for a smooth mobility. Around 800 employees work at 35 institutes of KIT on lightweight, electric mobility, high-performance batteries, renewable fuels for internal combustion engines as well as autonomous driving, in which artificial intelligence and machine learning play an important role. The interrelations between the human-vehicle-infrastructure as well as holistic traffic concepts, which integrate various mobility forms, are also on the agenda.
