The Welcome Center of the TRK Grows and Brings New Events into the Region

The Welcome Center of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion is in high demand and has thus strengthened itself within a few months. Only on May 1, 2018, the Welcome Center started its consulting work with the support of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Since the beginning of the year, our new employee Filomena Hanhörster takes also charge of the interests of international experts and young career starters, looking to live and work in the TechnologyRegion.

Filomena Hanhörster has a bachelor degree in social sciences with a focus on intercultural relationships. She obtained her master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Kent. During studies abroad and internships, Hanhörster experienced Iran, Turkey and Ghana up close. Most recently, she was employed as integration manager at the district administration Landratsamt Karlsruhe. Thanks to several years of experience in refugee work, she can call upon her experience in consulting foreign fellow citizens. "It is a great pleasure for me to cooperate with various actors here in the region – as well as worldwide – and thus to be able to open up new perspectives for international experts in the TRK," states Hanhörster.

Amongst others, the participants of the International Come Together, an offer for international experts to exchange ideas with like-minded people in a pleasant atmosphere, also benefit from it. In accordance with its pilot function, the Welcome Center offers also targeted consulting in all questions concerning the life and work in Germany. After the successful premiere in January, this format will regularly take place at the TechnologyRegion.

The next event is fixed: Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. (Im Schlachthof, Alter Schlachthof 7, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany).

A further event of the Welcome Center invites entrepreneurs and recruiters to Bühl into the premises of the company Bada AG. On February 14, 2019 starting at 2:30 p.m., the focus will be on attracting and retaining international experts in the field of STEM. With the Bühl Economic Development Department and the BEN Europe Institute, an educational institution for intercultural management, we have compiled lectures about the recruitment of foreign employees, the work life in Germany and the work in intercultural teams.
