Official Opening: The Welcome Center Karlsruhe TechnoloyRegion Starts Work

The Welcome Center TechnologyRegion has officially started its work with an opening ceremony. Katrin Schütz, Secretary of State at the State Ministry of Baden-Wuerttemberg for Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing and Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion GmbH, emphasised the importance of Welcome Centers in their welcoming speech.

Manager of the TRK Jochen Ehlgötz and Head of the Welcome Center Petra Bender underlined the securing of the need of experts as an important future task of the region. The Welcome Center serves as a contact point for the further expansion of the welcoming culture of the region and the acquisition of international experts.

“Bringing international experts and the companies of the TechnologyRegion together”, this is how Petra Bender, the new Head of the Welcome Center of the TRK defines their aim. "The Welcome Center is intended to be a valuable and helpful contact for both target groups, for the companies that need experts from abroad and for the international experts themselves," says the certified social pedagogue.

On May 1, the Welcome Center started its work as a contact point with the support of the federal state. “To ensure the need of experts is an important future task for the Baden-Wuerttemberg economy and an important concern of the State Government”, states Karin Schütz, Secretary of State. “We support international experts and their families in settling in Baden-Wuerttemberg by funding our Welcome Centers. We also support our companies in recruiting international experts and enjoying a welcoming culture in the company. Especially for small and medium-sized companies the Welcome Centers are important contacts".

Petra Bender’s last weeks were characterised by developing the centre and introducing it to the region as a contact point with different services for companies and experts. Dr. Frank Mentrup (Lord Mayor of the City of Karlsruhe), Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TRK, is certain that „it is indispensable for the future of our site to attract international experts to the region". "Due to the location of the region in the direct vicinity to France, but also to international companies and research institutions, the region has a long history of welcoming culture on which the Welcome Center can now set up.”

“The Welcome Center constitutes an important pillar of the activities of the TRK GmbH”, explains TRK Manager Jochen Ehlgötz.“The services and added values that we already offer companies, founders, research institutions and municipalities, will be thus complemented by a further important component, not even a year after the foundation. In the meantime, the first consultations have been held and event formats are currently being developed. Currently, there is also a position of a further employee in the Welcome Center to be filled.

The premises of the Welcome Center are included in the office of the TRK GmbH at the Technology Park Karlsruhe, where the phrase "Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome to the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion" will become increasingly common in the future!
