Over 30 Years of Commitment to the FZI: We Deeply Mourn for Wolfgang Rosenstiel

We mourn the loss of our long-standing scientific director of the FZI, Professor Wolfgang Rosenstiel, who passed away on August 19, 2020 at the age of 65 after a serious illness.

Last Wednesday on August 19, 2020, our scientific director Professor Wolfgang Rosenstiel died after a long illness at the age of 65. We are deeply saddened to say goodbye to a friend, supervisor and colleague who rendered outstanding services to the FZI for decades.

His main fields of activity were hardware and software development for embedded systems. In his research and teaching, he was especially concerned with hardware/software co-design and verification, computer architectures, parallel processing and neural networks.

Wolfgang Rosenstiel joined the FZI in 1986 and was group leader in the field of "Automation of Circuit Design" for four years. After his call to the University of Tübingen in 1990, he continued to work tirelessly for the FZI as a scientific director, especially for the department "Microelectronic System Design" (SiM), which was founded at the same time.

For many years he was the Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Tübingen and was also directing the Chair for Computer Science.

Prof. Rosenstiel has significantly contributed to the development of the FZI. He was a formative role model, a professional visionary and a tireless advocate as well as an outstanding networker for the FZI. The personal and professional support of the FZI’s employees was always one of his major concerns.

We will sorely miss Wolfgang Rosenstiel. We express our deepest sympathy to his family.
