Karlsruhe, 19.09.2019 - The mobility project regiomove has the chance of getting the special award "Digitalisation" in the category "Research" during the award ceremony of the German Sustainability Award in November. The jury has already selected the project as one of the top three.

"This shows us again that we take the right path with regiomove and this certainly gives us additional motivation," states Dr. Frank Pegel from the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (KVV). Under his leadership, a regional partner network works on linking the existing transport services in the Middle Upper Rhine Region since December 2017. The aim is to get from A to B, by means of an app, in a simple and environmental friendly way. For this purpose, various means of transport can be used, namely trams, Stadtmobil CarSharing or rental bikes. Route planing, booking and payment will be carried out via a new app. Supportingly, mobility stations will be developed in the region, so-called regiomove ports, on which the change from one to another vehicle is facilitated and further services are offered. The design of the ports were developed in a design competition. These will initially be realised at seven pilot locations in the region starting next year.

The jury statement for the German Sustainability Award reads "regiomove pursues a regional approach and combines digital and physical linking, in order to forward an efficient and climate-friendly form of mobility. The jury of the German Sustainability Award honours this by selecting regiomove as one of the top three for the special award "Digitalisation" in the category "research". The award ceremony will take place in Düsseldorf on November 21, 2019.

As a lighthouse project of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion, regiomove is funded by the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) over three years with around EUR 4.9 million. Together with the partners KIT, the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, the FZI Research Center for Information Technology, raumobil GmbH, PTV Group, INIT GmbH, Stadtmobil CarSharing GmbH & Co. KG, the Regional Planning Association Middle Upper Rhine, the district of Rastatt and the city of Karlsruhe the future of mobility will be redesigned in the entire region.
