"Once again, we have successfully applied as Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion," states the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH, Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup. "I am glad for the applying office as well as for the region altogether, since the application is supported by 20 institutions and organisations. Together, they emphasise that successful applications are preceded by successful networking and cooperation."

With the notification of the funding decision, which was handed over by the Ministerial Director of the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wurttemberg Michael Kleiner to the Managing Director Jochen Ehlgötz of the TRK GmbH, it was definite that the TRK Innogator NETZ will be funded. With this funding, the innovation actors and their activities in the entire region will be bundled in a joint network, NETZwerk in German, and the regional innovation management in the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion will be further professionalised. Further EUR 200,000 will be provided by the TRK GmbH, so that EUR 370,000 will be available for the development and implementation of the TRK Innogator NETZ by mid-2021.

In total, the State had provided EUR 1.6 million in its tender for "Maßnahmen zur Implementierung oder Verstetigung von regionalem Innovationsmanagement und regionalen Innovationssystemen" (measures for the implementation or consolidation of regional innovation management and regional innovation systems). "The funding secures the capacities, in order to coordinate regional offers better and to align them more strategically and better to the needs and frameworks of the SMEs. We thus want to expand the existing innovation and economic development network in the south and north of the region," states Jochen Ehlgötz, managing director of the TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH. "One of our central tasks is to keep an eye out for suitable funding pools at all levels in order to increase the innovation capacity of our region." After winning the DigiHub in Bruchsal, the TRK-Innogator NETZ is already the second major funding programme that was successfully won in 2018 over to the region and in cooperation with partners.

The project will be launched in January 2019 and will be managed by Dr. Petra Jung-Erceg of the TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe GmbH. "In tangible terms, we want to create, for example, a competence map of the innovation actors and intermediaries of the region, so that it becomes visible who has which know-how and where in central Baden, Palatine or around Bruchsal," explains Jung-Erceg. "The development of an internet-based information and collaboration platform is also planned besides further networking measures."

The aim of these new approaches is to improve the coordination between intermediaries themselves as well as between intermediaries and the SME target group. However, it should also become easier to find certain, wanted competencies from the outside. This will accelerate innovation processes and turn ideas into marketable products and services more quickly.
