GreenNavigation – Project in the Leading-edge Cluster Electric Mobility South-West

The project "GreenNavigation", funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in the framework of the Leading-edge Cluster Electric Mobility South-West, aims at optimising the ranges of electric vehicles. For this purpose, the project partners will intelligently interlink innovative vehicle concepts, modern communication technologies and development tools. A holistic approach is pursued, in order to generate reliable forecasts about the consumption. This includes the behaviour of the driver, vehicle characteristics and operating strategies, new methods for the calculation of energy-optimised routes as well as the information exchange between the vehicle and the environment, like temperature profiles or precipitation and wind forecasts.

In order to optimise the range of electric vehicles and to increase the range confidence, "GreenNavigation" will link two different levels: On the level of the macro-optimisation, a planing of energy-optimised routes takes place. The calculation takes place on the basis of traffic data, information about charging poles, charging time and parking facilities as well as vehicle and route characteristics. On the level of the micro-optimisation, the focus is set on driving and operating strategies. In doing so, the drivers themselves are integrated – through individual driving recommendations as well as  efficiency assessments of their driving behaviour – but also through the situation-related predicted energy consumption of the vehicle. In a further project step, researched services are prototypically implemented and step by step integrated into a electric vehicle as well as evaluated in real-life scenarios, beginning with a simulation model.

By means of "GreenNavigation", reliable information about the range of an electric vehicle can be obtained. This supports energy- and resource-efficient mobility solutions and contributes to the safeguarding of individual mobility. Leading to an increasing applicability of electric vehicles and contributing to an increasing trust of end users into electric mobility.

IPG Automotive GmbH (which coordinates the project), CarMedialab GmbH, Daimler FleetBoard GmbH, Harman Becker Automotive Systems GmbH, PTV Group as well as Robert Bosch GmbH are participating in "GreenNavigation" besides the FZI Research Center for Information Technology.

Leading-edge Cluster Electric Mobility South-West

With around 80 actors from industry and science, the Leading-edge Cluster Electric Mobility South-West is one of the most important regional associations in the field of electric mobility. The cluster, which is managed by the State Agency e-mobil BW GmbH, pursues the aim of advancing the industrialisation of electric mobility in Germany and of turning Baden-Württemberg into a leading supplier of electric mobility solutions. Under the motto "road to global market", the cluster benefits from the unique opportunities of the region Karlsruhe – Mannheim – Stuttgart – Ulm, in order to connect renowned, large, small and medium-sized companies from the fields of vehicle technology, energy technology, information and communication technology (ICT) as well as the cross-disciplinary field of production technology.
