Adaptive, Intuitive Assistance System for Intelligent Building Control (AICASys)

The project AICASys aims to enable wheelchair-bound persons to live a more autonomous and self-determined life in their own four walls. By means of an autonomously operating wheelchair and eye tracking glasses, visual scanning patterns of the affected person shall be recognised, the wheelchair shall be controlled via context information and items in the flat shall be switched as well as aid shall be provided in particular situations. Carers and relatives shall thus be supported in the care of the affected person.

Advanced Customer Insights

The project Advanced Customer Insights is a joint research project of FZI and 1&1. The research project aims at modeling and predicting the behavior of telecommunication customers. The objective is the development of autonomically triggered, customized marketing campaigns based on high-dimensional, sequential association rules and angle-based techniques for characterizing and predicting customer preferences and product affinities. Particular challenges are the intelligent reduction of high-dimensional customer data, high behavioral and technical dynamics, and the appropriate consideration of the influence of communication network structures on customer behavior.

ALERT – Active support and reaL-time coordination based on Event pRocessing in FLOSS development

ALERT is an Open Source project that aims to improve the overall bug resolution process in Open Source developers' collaborative environments. ALERT system provides methods and tools to improve the coordination among collaborative as well as distributed virtual teams developing software in Open Source communities and in software development companies.

BigGIS

In the project BigGIS, a new generation of GIS is developed and researched, which supports decisions in various scenarios, by means of new mechanisms and on the basis of large amounts of heterogeneous data, better and faster. The innovation lies in the comprehensive cooperation of time and space in the analysis, the consideration of significantly larger amounts of even unstructured and unreliable amounts of data and a continuous processing pipeline, which supports not only descriptive but also predictive and prescriptive as well as visual analyses. In the three application scenarios "Civil Protection", "Environment" and "Smart City and Health", prototypical problems are addressed and solutions are elaborated, empirically validated as well as further developed.

Through the transition towards a sustainable industrial production and energy supply, the bio-based economy is increasing in importance worldwide. The forestry sector is an essential pillar of bioeconomy. Although individual economical-ecological questions play a role in political debates over and over again, there is practically no relevant social discussion on future questions of a wood-based bioeconomy. Our project aims at initiating a wide social debate on ecological and economical questions of forest management's future. The starting point is the idea of the art project "terra0" that wants a forest to be autonomously self-managed using the blockchain technology.

CloUIT deals with the establishment of new IT sourcing models at an investment firm in Frankfurt (Main). In the context of an already fully outsourced infrastructure and service landscape, the focus is set on the selection of new service offerings and providers together with data privacy and security questions. The selection and seamless integration of new services into existing infrastructures, with the option of a provider transition at any time, requires explicit acquaintance of the current IT risk situation. This is obtained through the analysis of monitoring data with data mining methods and their aggregation.

Klassifikation von Produktstammdaten mittels Semantik (Semantik@IFCC)

Firmen fehlt es nicht an Daten, es fehlt Ihnen an Überblick über Methoden und Modelle der datengetriebenen Entscheidungsunterstützung. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Master Data Management Firma IFCC GmbH liegt der Fokus in diesem Projekt auf zwei Entscheidungsproblemen: 1) die automatische Klassifikation von Stammdaten (z.B. Produkte, Kunden, Werkzeuge) anhand eines gegebenen Klassifikationssystems wie eCl@ss; hierbei werden auch Herausforderungen der Datenqualität, der Multilingualität und von großen Datenmengen berücksichtigt; 2) das automatische Mapping zwischen Elementen eines Klassifikationssystems gegenüber eines anderen Klassifikationssystems. Vielversprechend bei diesen Problemen sind neben allgemeinen Ansätzen zur Automatisierung und Beschleunigung von datengetriebenen Entscheidungsunterstützungsprozessen insbesondere die Berücksichtigung der Semantik von Stammdaten- und Klassenbeschreibungen. Das dadurch verbesserte semi-automatische Management von Stammdaten ist zum Beispiel im Industrie-4.0-Kontext relevant, denn Stammdaten sind eine wichtige Referenzquelle für Produktionsprozesse.

Konkurrent und Komplementär

Enterprise Social Software (ESS) wird in immer mehr Unternehmen in Deutschland eingesetzt. Sie kann für mehr Partizipation von Mitarbeiter*innen sorgen, birgt gleichsam aber auch Risiken – besonders unter Gesichtspunkten des Beschäftigtendatenschutzes. Die zentrale Forschungsfrage des Projektes lautet: "Wie gestalten sich Strukturen und Prozesse betrieblicher Mitbestimmung angesichts des zunehmenden Einsatzes von digitalen Unternehmens-Plattformen für Partizipation und Kollaboration, insbesondere für Betriebsräte?" Der Fokus wird auf den Einsatz unternehmensinterner Plattformlösungen für Beschäftigtenpartizipation, sogenannte Enterprise Social Software (ESS), gelegt.

MATURE

MATURE ist Integrierendes Projekt (IP), das von der Europäischen Kommission im 7. Rahmenprogramm (FP7) gefördert wird. Mit einem Projektbudget von 9,6 Millionen Euro über vier Jahre bringt das Projekt die führenden Unternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen im Bereich Informelles Lernen, Organisationales Lernen, Wissensmanagement, Geschäftsprozessmanagement und semantische Technologien zusammen. MATURE baut auf der am FZI entwickelten Wissensreifungstheorie auf und stellt die Fortführung der Forschungsaktivitäten im Bereich der partizipativen und kollaborativen Ontologieentwicklung dar.

OCROSS

Im Rahmen des Projekts OCROSS (Open Data Crowd Sensing Service für die einfache Fusion annotierter und schwarmbasierter Massendaten) sollen zum einen große "Trainings-Datensätze" erzeugt und bereitgestellt werden, um die Investitionsschwelle für zukünftige Akteure/Startups zu reduzieren und somit die Grundlage für innovative Lösungen zu schaffen. Außerdem soll die Nutzung dieser Datensätze sowie deren zukünftige Anreicherung über ein Rahmenwerk mit einer angeschlossenen Marktplatzplattform realisiert werden. Teil dieses Rahmenwerks ist auch die Entwicklung von Verfahren zur verbesserten Kombination und Harmonisierung der durch die Crowd gesammelten Daten.

The project Open HoLL follows a unique method: It combines the concepts of open innovation, thus the innovation-supporting transfer of knowledge between companies, with the real and virtual research environment of the FZI House of Living Labs (HoLL). Open HoLL centrally bundles the existing competences of the partner companies of the HoLL and other research institutions, in order to facilitate the knowledge and technology transfer among all actors involved. Participation as a Service (PaaS) – Modulare Software für mehr Demokratie im Unternehmen

In einem vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) geförderten Projekt entwickelt ein interdisziplinäres Konsortium im Zeitraum von 2015 bis 2017 digitale Verfahren, um Partizipation in Organisationen zu ermöglichen. Mit den Experten für E-Partizipation Liquid Democracy e.V. und partou e.G., der Managementberatung HRpepper sowie dem FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik, werden erstmals sektorübergreifende Kompetenzen für diese Fragestellung gebündelt. Ziel ist es, Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter stärker an der Unternehmensgestaltung und betrieblichen Entscheidungsfindung zu beteiligen.

Projektübergreifende Forschung im Schaufenster Elektromobilität LivingLab BWe mobil

Geschäftsmodelle und IKT-basierte Dienstleistungen für Elektromobilität

Das FZI leitet eines der vier Projekte zur Projektübergreifenden Forschung zum Schaufensterprojekt LivingLab BWe mobil. Im Rahmen dieses Projektes sollen zusammen mit dem Fraunhofer IAO neue Geschäftsmodelle für die Einführung und den nachhaltigen Einsatz der Elektromobilität analysiert und im Kontext des Schaufensters bewertet werden. Zudem liegt der Fokus auf der Analyse des Potenzials von  IKT-Diensten zur Netzintegration der Elektrofahrzeuge. Hierbei soll das Lastverschiebepotenzial in anwendungsnahen Szenarien quantifiziert und IKT Dienste für Endanwender konzipiert werden, die eine Nutzung der Flexibilität in der Anwendung ermöglichen.

RealMoves

Moderne Fahrzeuge werden serienmäßig mit zahlreichen Sensoren ausgestattet, durch welche der Betriebszustand und zu einem gewissen Grad auch das Umfeld der Fahrzeuge erfasst werden können. In einem Kooperationsprojekt soll geprüft werden, inwiefern eine weitergehende Auswertung dieser Routinemessungen mittels statistischer Auswertung Rückschlüsse auf die Beschaffenheit der Straßeninfrastruktur erlaubt. Das Gesamtvorhaben umfasst die sensorbasierte Merkmalserfassung, deren Vorverarbeitung, die Datengenerierung zur Funktionsabsicherung, die statistische Auswertung geo-temporaler Daten durch Methoden des statistischen Lernens sowie die Entwicklung der zugrundeliegenden Datenverarbeitungsinfrastruktur.

ReApp - Wiederverwendbare Roboterapplikationen für flexible Roboteranlagen basierend auf ROS Industrial

Im Rahmen des ReApp Projekts verfolgt das FZI das Ziel, semantische Technologien und Beschreibungssprachen in wiederverwendbare "Roboter-Apps" für die geplante industrietaugliche Integrationsplattform verfügbar zu machen, um vor allem auch KMUs bei der Modellierung, Programmierung und dem Deployment von Roboterapplikationen zu unterstützen. Zusammen mit zahlreichen Projektpartnern wie zum Beispiel dem Fraunhofer IPA, KIT, Sick, Ruhrbotics und BMW versucht das FZI mittels ROS Industrial und "Roboter-Apps" die Programmierkosten zu reduzieren und so Robotik mittelstandtauglich zu machen.

ReKoNeT

Im Rahmen des Verbundprojekts ReKoNeT werden Unternehmen eines Netzwerks – insbesondere KMU – befähigt das Netzwerk ganzheitlich zu betrachten und gemeinsam im Sinne eines Systemoptimums zu agieren. Hierfür werden Industrie 4.0 Konzepte unter Berücksichtigung von ökonomischen, sicherheitstechnischen und datenschutzrechtlichen Aspekten zu digitalisierten Kollaborationstools weiterentwickelt.

Risikoanalyse in der Supply Chain für die BASF

Ebenfalls 2013 startete das FZI mit der BASF SE eine mehrjährige Kooperation zum Thema Supply Chain Risiko Management in der Prozessindustrie. Ziel der Zusammenarbeit ist es, Risiken der Supply Chain auf Basis von im Unternehmen eingesetzter Planungsverfahren mathematisch quantifizierbar zu machen. Dabei baut das FZI auf das unter anderem im Forschungsprojekt RAN entwickelte Framework zur szenariobasierten Simulation von Lieferketten auf.

SaDaaS – Erfolgsbasiertes Pay-per-Use: Bezahlt werden nur erfolgreich ausgeführte Dienstleistungen

Herkömmliche Abrechnungsverfahren für Dienstleistungen, die als Online-Service über das Internet bereitgestellt werden, gehen davon aus, dass die eingekaufte Dienstleistung nach dem Auslösen störungsfrei bis zum Ende ausgeführt wird. Am FZI wurde ein Modul für Internet-Abrechnungssysteme entwickelt, das den korrekten Transaktionsablauf überwacht. Abgebucht werden nur erfolgreich ausgeführte Leistungen.

SeRoNet - Servicerobotik-Netzwerk

Das Projekt »SeRoNet – Servicerobotik-Netzwerk« mit seiner IT-Plattform zur arbeitsteiligen Entwicklung von Serviceroboter-Lösungen wird die Kosten der Software-Entwicklung für Roboterlösungen deutlich reduzieren. Indem vorhandene Hardware- und auch Software-Komponenten standardisiert und mit interoperablen Schnittstellen versehen werden, sinkt der Integrationsaufwand neuer Lösungen erheblich. Dadurch sollen in Zukunft neue und innovative Roboterlösungen kostengünstig und flexibel eingesetzt werden können.

SLA@SOI

Im Projekt SLA@SOI wurde erforscht, wie Qualitätseigenschaften von IT-Diensten bei der Konstruktion Service-orientierter Architekturen systematisch sichergestellt und im Betrieb überwacht werden können. Das FZI steuerte Verfahren zur Qualitätsvorhersage beim Software-Entwurf bei, integrierte die Vorhersage in die entstandene SLA-Plattform und schuf neue Methoden für die Qualitätsplanung bei der Dienstkomposition

SmartCheck-RZ

Ziel des Projektes SmartCheck-RZ ist es die energieeffiziente Planung von Rechenzentren (RZ) zu unterstützen. Die RZ’s stehen heute unter dem kontinuierlichen Zwang zur Steigerung ihrer Effizienz und Verbesserung ihrer Infrastruktur. Dies betrifft nicht nur die Erhöhung der Rechenleistung, die Verbesserung der Verfügbarkeit und die Erhöhung der Speicherkapazität, sondern trifft auch auf Maßnahmen zur Reduktion von Energie- und Wartungskosten.
Hier setzt das Projekt an, welches zum Ziel die Entwicklung eines Frameworks hat, das bei Neu- und Umplanung  von Rechenzentren die Energieeffizienz der eingesetzten Klima-Technologien in Abhängigkeit der konkreten Anforderungen und Kontextinformationen evaluiert und verbessert.

TIGRESS

Das ZIM-Kooperationsprojekt TIGRESS hat zum Ziel, ein kontext-sensitives Suchsystem zu entwickeln, das den Servicetechniker bei seiner Fehlerdiagnose und Lösungssuche durch eine strukturierte Vorgehensweise und in seiner Fachterminologie unterstützt. Um den Umgebungsbedingungen die einem Vor-Ort-Einsatz von Servicetechnikern gerecht zu werden muss ein entsprechendes IT-System mobil und äußerst einfach bedienbar sein. Damit soll die Bearbeitungszeit deutlich reduziert, die Qualität der Lösung verbessert und die Kosten des Serviceeinsatzes gesenkt werden.

The Project "Wegweiser Pflege und Technik" has the goal to systematically collect innovative technologies and technology based services in nursing and to spread the knowledge by using specific transfer activities in Baden-Württemberg.

To achieve this goal, a web based Information Platform and a mobile exhibition are developed.

xDELIA

Goal of the EU-project xDelia is to produce both knowledge and novel applications capable of improving financial decision making in three different fields of practice: professional trading, private investment, and personal finance. The project uses and also evaluates the potential of games, game technologies, and sensors as components in learning support environments, and as tools to conduct experimental and field research.

The choice of these technologies for improving learning outcomes is motivated by recent findings in the expertise and decision making literature. Those are pointing to the importance for competence building of contextual and psychological validity, and of the need for timely and relevant feedback. Games and sensors allow to incorporate the characteristic of context validity and feedback into learning support environments.
