Job Description

The FZI Research Center for Information Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a non-profit institution for applied research in information technology and technology transfer. For our Research Division Information Process Engineering (IPE) we are looking for a research scientist with a focus on economic evaluation of flexibility in the smart grid.

Your Responsibilities

The current challenges of energy transition are the design of innovative algorithms, economic mechanisms and suitable optimisation approaches. Your research work will reveal the economic potentials of flexibility on the demand side of the smart grid. You will develop concrete requirements for the target-oriented design of energy markets systems, and services. Your tasks include:

  • Work on publicly funded projects and/or projects directly commissioned by industrial partners
  • Conception, implementation and evaluation of new market mechanisms, ICT solutions and optimisation methods for the energy system of the future
  • Work in the research field market and incentive mechanisms for smart grids
  • Presentation of research results in the context of publications and speeches at national and international conferences

Your Profile

  • Degree in Informatics, Information Management, Industrial Engineering and Management or a similar subject (diploma/master) as well as interest in the energy industry
  • In-depth understanding of the economy and structured and problem-oriented thinking
  • Experience in software development with Java, Python or comparable languages
  • First experience or willingness to learn LaTeX and R
  • Basic knowledge and interest in the field of machine learning and big data analytics
  • Technical and economic understanding of IT and energy systems
  • Excellent teamwork skills, enthusiasm and interest in applied scientific work
  • Excellent written and spoken skills in German and English
