Hybrid Building Twins for Increased Energy Efficiency

Hybrenergy focuses on sustainable construction process engineering using digital building twins.
In addition to building information models and traditional construction plans, the approach also incorporates as-built scans, control data from technical building equipment (TBE), as well as sensor and environmental data. These are fused into a common hybrid twin model that spans all life cycle phases of the building and is used for energy simulations, TBE optimizations, and collaborative visualizations in virtual reality. The aim is to evaluate what-if scenarios for CO2-reducing construction and renovation measures in new buildings, but primarily in existing buildings, and translate them into concrete investment recommendations. The project thus directly supports the energy transition in the building sector.
Within the project, the FZI is working on the development of a holistic data model for the hybrid twin, as well as the processing and fusion of large heterogeneous datasets for use in simulations and visualizations.
The research focus includes the research and design of sustainable IT innovations in the cross-sectional areas of energy, mobility, production, water management, and logistics. This includes both systems that aim to use resources in an ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable manner, as well as strategic consulting for companies—especially SMEs—on their path to greater sustainability.

This research focus includes the research and design of sustainable IT innovations in the cross-sectional areas of energy, mobility, production, water management, and logistics. This involves developing systems that promote the ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable use of resources, and providing strategic consultancy services to companies, particularly SMEs, on their path to greater sustainability.
