Spotlights
We put our research on stage
Experience our live demos in the spotlight! With our four Spotlights, discover a vibrant world of research. In the afternoon of the FZI Open House 2026, our live demos will show you how AI actively decides which new data to collect, how a fire dispatcher fights fires in a virtual control center, and how to counter cyberattacks. All of this will take place at our event area in the FZI House of Living Labs. Would you rather meet our helpful service robots that respond to your commands? Either way, you can try things out for yourself, be amazed, and discuss the live demos with us!
Venue:
FZI House of Living Labs, Haid-und-Neu-Straße 5a, 76131 Karlsruhe
Our live demos as of 2:00 p.m.:
When systems do the thinking
Continuous learning instead of collecting data for future use
Experience how a learning system can decide in real time which data is truly relevant, resulting in more efficient AI model development. By combining data science and control engineering, the process of acquiring data becomes an active control loop: the system continuously evaluates the current data and controls which new data is recorded. Take part in the demo to generate a high-quality, real-time dataset for AI using body movements.

Commanding in action
VR training for fire department managers
See how fire department managers train in realistic, automatically generated VR scenarios and are evaluated objectively. The simulation adapts to individual performance levels and provides direct, constructive feedback. Watch live – or even slip into the role of the operations management!

Our live demos as of 3:00 p.m.:
Tell Spot!
Control robot Spot with your voice
Experience how a service robot performs dynamic tasks and can be controlled using natural language without any programming effort. The live demo shows how versatile service robotics can be as a general-purpose platform. See and test for yourself what is possible when humans and robots work together intuitively.

Security Lab Sneak Peek
Understanding cyberattacks and responding effectively
Take an exclusive look inside the new Security Lab at RegioMORE and experience a realistic cyberattack on a virtual corporate network. Take the perspective of the attackers and learn how typical vulnerabilities are exploited. At the same time, learn about practical approaches that organizations can use to protect themselves effectively.

HoLL tours
We showcase our wide range of topics in general tours of the FZI House of Living Labs.
Experience hands-on research: As part of the Open House 2026, we invite you to take a guided tour of our unique FZI House of Living Labs.
The approximately one-hour tours combine concise insights into current research projects with presentations of selected highlight demonstrators. We address key topics from the forums and demonstrate how research innovations find their way into practical applications.
Whether you know nothing about the FZI or are already familiar with us, our general tours will give you an idea of what we do, inspire you, and give you a fresh perspective on our work.
