SAFE AI ENGINEERING
AI engineering ensures safety of AI components for autonomous, connected driving
Start: 12.2022
End: 11.2025
Lack of exercise is one of the biggest health problems worldwide, with significant consequences for quality of life and the healthcare system. The BeACTIVE joint project is developing an intelligent, mobile system that uses targeted incentives at the right time and in the right environment to motivate people to be more physically active.
One of the project’s added values lies in its combination of technological expertise and sports science applications. While traditional systems often provide general reminders to be active, BeACTIVE offers customized exercise programs tailored to everyday situations and individual user behavior. This is supported by a database of previous research projects, which is used to train and validate the system. In collaboration with the Institute of Sports and Sports Science (IfSS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the FZI is developing methods that integrate modern AI algorithms with current measurement techniques, such as acceleration sensors and electronic diaries. The result is a real-time, self-learning system that recognizes individual behavior patterns and uses them to derive adaptive recommendations for increased exercise. The project will primarily benefit sports and health scientists who wish to use mobile technologies and AI approaches to encourage physical activity. It also addresses companies in the digital health and occupational health management sectors, as well as private individuals motivated to be more active through adaptive systems. In addition to its social relevance, the BeACTIVE project also has an economic dimension: The AI algorithms and data skills developed can be utilized by small and medium-sized enterprises in the digital health sector, particularly to create new products and services. BeACTIVE demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence can help to positively change health-related behaviour in everyday life and address social challenges through digital technologies.
The FZI Research Center for Information Technology is contributing its expertise in Artificial Intelligence, interaction design, and data-driven system development to the BeACTIVE project. The FZI is playing a key role in developing and technically implementing the AI components. Additionally, the FZI is organizing a series of workshops to promote data science skills in sports science. By doing so, the FZI contributes to technological innovation and actively promotes interdisciplinary knowledge transfer.
In this research focus, the FZI concentrates on practical research into the key technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Innovative AI solutions are developed and transferred to application areas such as mobility, robotics, healthcare technology, logistics, production, and supply and disposal on behalf of our partners and customers.
