Strong together through networking: The FZI is involved regionally, nationally and internationally in initiatives, associations, committees and networks, and maintains its partnerships. In this way, we actively shape knowledge and technology transfer while providing research policy support.  Everyone benefits from an intensive exchange and mutual impulses from science and industry.

The FZI as shareholder

As a regional, cross-state action alliance, the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion shapes the development of the region with the aim of strengthening and advancing the economic, scientific and innovation zone. The focus is on the topics of mobility, energy, and IT/digitization.

The Digitales Innovationszentrum (DIZ) is advancing the digital transformation in Baden-Württemberg. And it supports companies in their digitization efforts through specific offerings. At the same time, the DIZ works closely with business, science and the public sector.

innoWerft is a non-profit organization with the goal of promoting IT and deep-tech startups in the Rhine-Neckar region. It supports founders in an early phase their business startup and accompanies the further development process.

EICT initiates and supports collaborations between partners from industry, academia and applied research in the pre-competitive area. As a neutral third party, EICT manages distributed work and communication in projects. And in doing so, brings proven tools for collaborations to bear.

The Automotive Engineering Network is a neutral institution that bundles expert knowledge for small and medium-sized companies and startups to help successfully implement their innovations.

AIK e.V. – Verein Angewandte Informatik Karlsruhe e.V.

The AIK association is a forum for the lively exchange of ideas between teaching, research and business on topics related to computer science and information and communication technologies in their innovative impact on business and society.

Alliance for Cyber Security

The Alliance for Cyber Security is a cybersecurity initiative of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Its goal: to strengthen Germany’s resilience to cyberattacks.


The Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems (ASAM e.V.) coordinates the development of technical standards, which are developed in project groups by experts from its member companies.

AUTOSAR – AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture

AUTOSAR is a worldwide development partnership of automotive manufacturers, suppliers and other companies from the electronics, semiconductor and software industries. Its goal is to develop and establish a standardized software architecture for electronic control units.

AutomationML e.V.

The AutomationML initiative is an open industry consortium. AutomationML is a comprehensive data format of plant engineering, which is promoted and further developed by the association for the standardization of data exchange in the engineering process of production systems.

Bitkom e.V.

The German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (Bitkom) is the industry association for the German information and telecommunications sector. It is a strong advocate of the digitization of business, society, and government.

German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW)

The BVMW is the largest, politically independent and cross-industry interest grouping of German SMEs.

BVL – Bundesvereinigung Logistik e.V.

The BVL association is a competence network geared towards promoting the understanding of logistics in the public and further developing logistic topics. It is intended to form a bridge between science and business as well as to provide a podium for dialog.

The expansion of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Baden-Württemberg is being driven forward by the Cluster Fuel Cell BW together with science and industry. It unites companies, research institutes, the public sector and associations and aims to achieve market maturity for hydrogen mobility with marketable and customer-friendly series products.

Cluster Electric Mobility South-West and AG Intelligent Move

As the southwest regional association for mobility of the future, the Cluster Electric Mobility South-West bundles competencies from business, science and politics and actively shapes the transformation of the mobility system. The AG Intelligent Move is a working group of the network.

CyberForum e.V.​

CyberForum e.V. is an association that supports companies from the IT and high-tech sector in all phases of business development, from startup consulting to specialist recruitment and location marketing campaigns.

de:hub - Digital Hub Karlsruhe Applied Artificial Intelligence and de:hub-Netzwerk

The Digital Hub networking initiative connects SMEs and corporates with new partners from science and the startup scene at twelve competence locations in Germany. At the Digital Hub in Karlsruhe, the focus is on the development and application of artificial intelligence.

Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft für Automatisierung und Mikroelektronik e.V. (DFAM)

The DFAM association is a network for electronics developers from large and small companies who work together with competent research institutions to develop solutions in production of microelectronics and automation processes.

German National Research and Education Network (DFN)

The DFN is a communication network for science and research in Germany. It connects universities and research institutions with each other and is seamlessly integrated into the European and worldwide association of research and science networks.

Digital Hub Netzwerk Baden-Württemberg

The Baden-Württemberg regional digital hubs are digitization centers where a wide variety of competencies, disciplines, ideas, technologies and creativity come together. They are regional points of contact for small and medium-sized enterprises in all sectors with questions about digitization and digital innovations.

Digitale Zivilgesellschaft 2021

The Digitale Zivilgesellschaft initiative is a self-organized network of civil society organizations that has approached policymakers with demands to advocate for an open and public good-oriented digital infrastructure and free access to knowledge.


ECLASS is an association that defines, develops and distributes the classification and master data standard of the same name internationally across all industries. This enables the digital exchange of product master data across industries, countries, languages and organizations.

Eclipse Foundation

The Eclipse Foundation is a non-profit corporation with the mission of managing the Eclipse open-source community and its projects. The goal of this community is to provide a platform for the development of software within the framework of various IT projects.

edacentrum e.V.

The edacentrum association is the network for electronics, design and applications in business and science. It shapes research & development for an end-to-end design methodology along the entire value chain and is a recognized innovation accelerator for the microelectronics industry.


euRobotics is an international association for all stakeholders in European robotics. Its aim is to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and to ensure the industrial leadership of manufacturers, suppliers and end users of systems and services based on robot technology.

fokus.energie e.V.

The fokus.energie e.V. is an initiative of committed entrepreneurs in the Karlsruhe region that provides impetus for a sustainable energy future. It promotes and supports ideas, companies and projects and offers a platform for the exchange of visions and talents.

Forum MedTech Pharma e.V. – Netzwerk für Medizintechnik und Pharma

Forum MedTech Pharma e.V. is the largest healthcare network in Germany and Europe. The association promotes cooperation, arranges contacts and provides information about the latest trends and innovations in specialist circles, targeted conferences and further training.

German Society for Operations Research (GOR)

The GOR is a non-profit society whose central mission is to promote the dissemination and use of operations research in science and practice.

German Informatics Society

The German Informatics Society (GI) is the largest professional society for computer science in the German-speaking world and represents the interests of computer experts in science, business, public administration, society and politics.

GUUG – German Unix User Group e.V.

The German Unix User Group is an association whose goal is to promote scientific research, technical developments and communication of open computer systems – especially in connection with Unix-like operating systems and related software.

Business 4.0 Initiative

The Business 4.0 Initiative supports companies in the region across all sectors in digitization and aims to make Baden-Württemberg even more visible as a premium international location for the digital economy.

innBW innovation alliance

The innBW is a fraternity of application-oriented, business-related research institutions. It conducts extensive preliminary research for industry and is supported by the state of Baden-Württemberg.

IT-Sicherheitsregion Karlsruhe

The body deals with research, research transfer, raising awareness and networking on the topic of IT security in the region of Karlsruhe.

Karlsruher IT-Sicherheitsinitiative

The KA-IT-Si initiative is a special interest group of the CyberForum. It raises awareness and provides information on IT security issues, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.

LEAM – Large European AI Models

LEAM is an initiative of the German AI Association and leading representatives from industry and research that promotes the development of large-scale AI models.

microTEC Südwest

microTEC Südwest is the competence and cooperation network for intelligent microsystems technology solutions in Germany’s southwest. The association offers a platform for professional exchange and networking, well-founded information on current topics and enables collaborations as well as insights into research, development and manufacturing of the members.

Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum

The regional and thematic “SME 4.0” competence centers are capable and provider-neutral points of contact for small and medium-sized enterprises and craftsmen on digitization. The aim of the competence centers is to inform, sensitize, and qualify.


Mittelstand-Digital is a funding measure of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action that provides information to small and medium-sized enterprises on the topic of digitization to strengthen them for competition. In this context, the SME 4.0 competence centers are the most important point of contact for companies.

Plattform Lernende Systeme

The platform brings together experts from the fields of learning systems and artificial intelligence. Together, they discuss the opportunities, challenges and framework conditions for the development and responsible use of learning systems to derive scenarios, recommendations, design options or roadmaps.

PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation e.V.

The PROFIBUS association brings together manufacturers and users of fieldbus technology with the aim of promoting further technical development and the international implementation of open technologies.

Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme Karlsruhe​

The Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme is the merger of the Karlsruhe institutions for research, teaching and transfer in the field of mobility systems in a performance center. This bundles people and competencies as well as equipment and preliminary work of the institutions to conduct research in a network.

ROS-Industrial Consortium Europe

The ROS-Industrial Consortium Europe deals with the promotion and support of Robot Operating Systems (ROS). In doing so, the consortium works on next-generation robot products and solutions and supports the robotics industry with workshops, events and training.

SafeTRANS e.V.

SafeTRANS is a competence network that bundles know-how from industry and science around development processes and methods for safety-critical embedded systems in transportation and other safety-critical applications.

Smart Grids-Plattform Baden-Württemberg e.V.​

This Baden-Württemberg platform is a network of central players from the energy industry, plant manufacturers, grid operators, IT, politics, and interested private individuals. The purpose of the association as a platform is to promote smart energy grids and to generate largely CO2-free energy in the long term.

Smart Home & Living Baden-Württemberg e.V.

The Smart Home & Living Baden-Württemberg initiative was launched to make better use of the potential in the smart home and living sector. The goal of the initiative is to create an innovation network in which all relevant players are involved.

Innovation Alliance of the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion

The alliance offers easy and fast access to the Karlsruhe technological innovation research landscape. It supports especially small and medium-sized companies with their innovation projects by providing access to numerous experts, technologies and infrastructures.

TMF – Technologie- und Methodenplattform für die vernetzte medizinische Forschung e.V.

The TMF is the umbrella organization for collaborative medical research in Germany. It is the platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration across projects and sites to jointly identify and solve the organizational, legal-ethical and technological problems of modern medical research.

TeleTrusT and TeleTrusT “IT Security made in Germany” Initiative

TeleTrusT is a competence network comprising members from industry, administration, consulting and science as well as thematically related partner organizations. “IT Security made in Germany” is the TeleTrusT seal of reliance for association members.

Test Area Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg (TAF BW)

The TAF BW is an autonomous driving project of several Baden-Württemberg research institutions, municipalities and state government. The consortium is developing, planning and expanding the test field under the leadership of the FZI Research Center for Information Technology.

VDE – Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik

VDE unites experts from science and industry with topics related to electronic/information technology and its applications. The association deals with science, standardization, testing, certification and application consulting.

VDE FNN – Forum Network Technology/Network Operation in the VDE

In the VDE network forum, manufacturers, grid operators, suppliers, plant operators, authorities and scientific institutions develop electricity grids with foresight. The goal is to always ensure reliable system operation with 80 percent renewable energies.

Verein der Karlsruher Software-Ingenieure (VKSI) e.V.

The VKSI aims to increase the visibility of the Karlsruhe region as a competence center for software engineering, to bundle and disseminate know-how and drive innovation, promoting young scientific and technical talent in the process.

W3C World Wide Web Consortium

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the body for standardizing techniques on the World Wide Web. The member organizations, including commercial enterprises, governmental or non-governmental organizations, universities or research institutions, work on this together.

Zentrum für Telemedizin e.V.

This association provides a wide range of information about telemedicine and supports its dissemination for the benefit of patients. It also promotes the development of numerous telemedicine projects.
