Research Scientist for Automated Driving on Motorways

Job openings

Research focus: Mobility, Safe and Intelligent Vehicles
Courses of study: Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics

Job Description

The FZI Research Center for Information Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is looking for a research scientist for the topic of automated driving on motorways to immediately fill the position. The position is initially limited to two years.

The FZI conducts research in the field of autonomous driving and has test vehicles at its disposal that are already equipped with specific sensors and actuators for that purpose. Driving on motorways represents a particularly interesting application within this research field. On the one hand, it is a challenge due to the high driving speed. On the other hand, motorways are the best and most consistently structured public traffic areas of all.

Your Responsibilities

The goal of the project is to research and evaluate methods to scan the surroundings with a wide-angle camera and to provide a situational description. The focus of this work lies on the geometry and topology of the lanes in the vehicle environment.

Special digital maps, which will be created in the course of the project, are supposed to be used to support the lane detection.

The project will be carried out in cooperation with an industrial partner. In parallel with the vehicles of the FZI, a test vehicle of the partners is supposed to be equipped with the developed hardware and software components.

Our Offer

  • An interdisciplinary work environment with users and with partners from economy and science
  • Scientifically demanding task in a productive team
  • Possibility to do your doctorate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Stiller
  • Application-oriented research with renowned partners from the automotive industry
  • Payment corresponding to the collective agreement for public service of the Laender (in German: Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (TV-L)) and attractive fringe benefits

Your Profile

  • Degree in electrical engineering, informatics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a similar technical or scientific subject
  • Knowledge of software development in C++ under the operating system Linux
  • Knowledge of machine vision/ image processing methods
  • Interest in applied scientific work
  • A hunger for innovation and the ability to work in a team and on your own initiative

Your Application

We are looking forward to receiving your PDF application. Please send your email to Mrs. Miriam Busch at karriere@dont-want-spam.fzi.de indicating the reference "Automatisches Fahren auf Autobahnen" and enclosing the following documents:

  • Cover letter, CV
  • Diplomas, certificates and a transcript of records
