Job Description

The FZI Research Center for Information Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a non-profit institution for applied research in information technology and technology transfer. Its task is to provide businesses and public institutions with the latest research findings in information technology. It also qualifies young researchers for their career in academics or business as well as self-employment. We are looking for a research scientist to support our research division "Intelligent Systems and Production Engineering" (ISPE)

The aim of our research in the field of "autonomous driving" is the realisation of methods of machine learning for situation assessments, situation prediction and behavioural decision making. Based on the formal description of situations, methods are researched that are, on the one hand, capable of learning but, on the other hand, dissolve uncertainties or contradictions of environment recognition through probabilistic machine interference, conclude on implicit connections and can proactively make rational decisions. These methods are tested and validated in real driving situations on the existing test vehicles as well as in simulation experiments.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include the following tasks:

  • Collaboration in national and international research projects
  • Researching formal descriptions of situations and creating learning and inference methods
  • Working on the realisation of robust, automated driving functions
  • Creating suitable experiments and implementation in test vehicles of the FZI

Your Profile

  • Degree in informatics, electrical engineering or a related technical or scientific subject
  • Knowledge in cognitive systems of robotics, machine learning and/or artificial neural networks
  • Very good knowledge in the programming languages C++ and Python
  • Knowledge in common software frameworks, especially ROS and ASTF
  • Ability to work independently and think methodically and creatively
  • Very good German or English skills
  • Motivation and commitment
