Mihai Kocsis completed his master's degree in computer science at the Fernuniversität in Hagen in 2017. He received his PhD on "Conception, development and implementation of autonomous vehicles for goods transportation in pedestrian environments" in 2021.

His work lies in the field of autonomous systems and mobility services, with a focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and edge AI. His research priorities include probabilistic sensor data fusion, AI-supported image processing, deep learning-based perception and prediction, and decision-making and planning methods for autonomous vehicles. He also works on real-time edge AI architectures, digital twins and data-driven simulation and validation approaches for ensuring the reliability of AI-based driving functions.

Since April 2024 he has been working at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in the Technical Cognitive Systems (TKS) department. Here he takes on the role of acquisition and management of projects related to autonomous and connected driving.
