Tobias Schürmann studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), focusing on automation and information technology. He attends courses emphasizing control theory, robotics, and optimization during his studies. He wrote his master's thesis titled "Design of an Optimization Algorithm for a Dynamic Reconfiguration of Lithium-ion Cells" at the Institute of Control Systems (IRS).

Since December 2015, he has been a scientific researcher at the FZI. His research deals with the development of flexible power management approaches for future automobiles. The goal is to effectively coordinate power flows in the vehicle and facilitate a seamless integration of new electric and electronic components into the vehicle after production.

Since July 2016, he has been vice department manager in the research division "Embedded Systems and Sensors Engineering "(ESS).
