Research Topics at the FZI Living Lab Service Robotics

At the FZI Living Lab Service Robotics, we focus on the following topics:

  • Development of innovative service robotics solutions for challenging, force-based assembly, joining and handling tasks also for the human-robot collaboration (HRC)
  • Fast, collision-free path planning for multiaxial robot arms (KUKA, Schunk, DENSO, ...) and mobile platforms, e.g. via highly parallel GPU algorithms
  • Development of software drivers and integration of sensor and actuator systems such as ROS support for UR-5, UR-10, Schunk LWA 4P, Fanuc etc.
  • Autonomous navigation solutions (SLAM) for the use of automated guided vehicle systems (AVG) and mobile service robots
  • Model-based grip planning systems for industrial parallel grippers up to anthropomorphic 5-finger hands (e.g. Schunk SVH)
  • Reactive, behaviour-based control concepts for autonomous robot systems
  • Real-time sensor processing and comprehensive 2D/3D-modelling of the environment
  • Design, construction and development of intelligent mechatronic systems and prototypes
