Autonomous Mobile Robots for Routine Tasks in Industry and Everyday Life

In the FZI Living Lab Service Robotics, new robotic basic technologies for environmental sensing, robot control, grip planning and human-robot interaction are developed that are used later in various FZI-wide user scenarios. The service robots support and relieve humans not only in routine tasks but they can also do strenuous or dangerous work.

Our objectives are:

  • to provide intelligent support for people in different situations – in a professional, public or private context – through service robots,
  • to develop simple, clear operating and programming concepts for the human-robot interaction, which enables everyone to work effectively and safe with robots,
  • to provide support in the development of innovative service robotics applications and to accelerate the launch through the use of modular software components and frameworks like ROS,
  • to develop basic technologies as well as new software and hardware interfaces for the latest sensor and actuator systems to merge these systems into assembly, intralogistics or handling applications and to use them effectively,
  • to combine the latest industrial component part and innovative sensor systems with own mechatronic systems as well as comprehensive skills on perception, planning and motion control and  
  • to combine and implement biologically inspired walking robots (LAURON), modular inspection robots (KAIRO) as well as mobile platforms up to mobile assembly and manufacturing robots and a two-armed assistance and service robot (HoLLiE).
