FZI Living Lab Service Robotics

Projects and partners of the FZI Living Lab Service Robotics

  • AuRorA: The aim of the AuRorA project is to develop a robust and at the same time flexible approach for the pleasant and efficient interaction of humans with robots in the smart home.
  • CAD-2-PATH: Fast generation of surface-true paths for robots based on CAD data using a web tool
  • GPU-Voxels: GPU-Voxels is a CUDA-based library that enables high-resolution volumetric collision detection between animated 3D models and live point clouds of 3D sensors of all kinds. It is mainly designed for planning and monitoring robots.
  • HORSE: Smart Robotics Solutions Enable SMEs to Use Latest Robot Technologies in Dynamic Assembly Processes
  • HoLLiE: The service robot HoLLiE is a flexible mobile support for everyday life.
  • Human Brain Project: The goal of the flagship project European Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) is to gain a new understanding of the brain, to research new treatment options for brain diseases, and to develop new biologically inspired computer technologies by means of the integration between neuro-scientific data and methods from different disciplines.
  • iBOSS: The goal of the project iBOSS is the standardisation and modularisation of satellites.
  • KAIRO: KAIRO is a modular serpentine inspection robot.
  • KolRob: Collaborative, intelligent robot colleague for the skilled manual workers.
  • LAURON: LAURON is a biologically inspired, six-legged walking robot.
  • ROBINA: Robot-assisted services for individual and resource-oriented intensive and palliative care for people with ALS.
  • ROBDEKON: The project name stands for "Robot systems for decontamination in hostile environments" and is dedicated to the research of autonomous or semi-autonomous robot systems. In the future, robot systems will carry out such decontamination work so that people can stay away from the danger zone.
  • ROS: Robot Operating Systems - Component-based Software Development for Robotics
  • SeRoNet:  SeRoNet, the [Se]rvice [Ro]boter [Net]work, aims to significantly simplify the design, development and use of service robots in a wide range of areas from logistics, care and healthcare to assembly support in manufacturing plants.

Completed projects:

  • FTS Fahrerlose Transportsysteme (automated guided vehicle systems): The FZI does not only work on intelligent navigation solutions for automated guided vehicles but also on the corresponding control of the infrastructure and fleet management. Thus, the FZI was able to broaden the range of application of its automated guided vehicles via an OPC-based infrastructure control with the help of an industrial partner. The partner’s innovative automated guided vehicles are currently in use in a hospital in Basel, Switzerland.
  • ISABEL: ISABEL stands for “innovative service robot with autonomous and intuitive operation for efficient handling and logistics” (in German “Innovativer Serviceroboter mit Autonomie und intuitiver Bedienung für effiziente Handhabung und Logistik”).
  • ReApp: Reusable robot applications for flexible robot systems based on ROS Industrial for medium-sized companies.
  • viEMA: In this BMWi project, five research partners have built a learning robot cell that is able to help out at manual workplaces at high quantities.
