Prof. Dr. Stefan Jähnichen honored as GI Fellow

At the INFORMATIK FESTIVAL 2024, FZI Director Prof. Dr. Stefan Jähnichen was honored by the German Informatics Society (GI) as one of four new GI Fellows. This honor recognizes his outstanding contributions to computer science, especially in the fields of software engineering, programming languages and compiler construction.

Stefan Jähnichen’s visionary work in the modeling and implementation of complex software systems has provided significant impetus for the ongoing development of computer science. As a scientist, he not only shaped the field of intelligent data analysis and the integration of hardware, basic and application software, but also influenced the careers of his almost one hundred doctoral students through his work.

In addition to his research activities, the FZI Director was involved in a number of executive functions, including as President of the German Informatics Society (GI) and as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Leibniz Center for Informatics Schloss Dagstuhl. With this award, he joins the ranks of personalities who have significantly promoted the reputation of computer science both nationally and internationally through exceptional scientific and practical achievements.

In addition to Stefan Jähnichen, three other outstanding personalities were honored as GI Fellows: Gudrun Schiedermeier, professor at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen, Michael Koch, professor at the Technical University of Munich and Frank Puppe, professor at the University of Würzburg.

Christine Regitz, President of the German Informatics Society, commented on the Fellows 2024: “Our Fellows this year have decisively shaped computer science with their commitment and pioneering ideas. Gudrun Schiedermeier, Stefan Jähnichen, Michael Koch and Frank Puppe make an important contribution to the further development of informatics in various ways, be it through innovative research, the transfer of knowledge or the promotion of diversity and ethical responsibility. Their work has not only enriched science, but has also provided positive impulses for society.”

We congratulate all Fellows on this outstanding honor!
