PD Dr.-Ing. Ingmar Baumgart heads the Competence Center for IT Security at the FZI.

Previously, he studied Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), specializing in cryptography, telematics, and law. After graduating in 2005, he joined the Institute of Telematics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) as a research associate. His research focused on the design and simulation of secure and efficient communication protocols for distributed systems.

After completing his doctorate in 2010, Ingmar Baumgart led a junior research group at KIT, where he worked on technical privacy-enhancing methods in the fields of energy, mobility, and social networks. In addition to his role at the FZI, Ingmar Baumgart is a Privatdozent at KIT since 2017. His teaching activities have spanned the fields of network security, mobile communication, multimedia communication, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

His primary research interests include network security, IoT security, privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), and the design of distributed systems.

Ingmar Baumgart is a certified TeleTrusT Information Security Professional (T.I.S.P.).
