Christoph Zimmermann studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technology with a specialization in Biomedical Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He joined FZI in 2013 and has headed the Medical Information Technology department and the FZI Living Lab Healthcare Innovation since 2017.
His research focuses on the intersection of computer science, medical technology and healthcare. Key topics include AI-based data, image and signal processing, computer vision, intelligent embedded systems, ambient and wearable sensing, human-technology and human-robot interaction, as well as the recognition and support of medical and care processes. Further areas include digital health applications and telemedicine, AR/VR, robotic assistance systems, data spaces, data trustee models and the sovereign use of health data.
Christoph Zimmermann has contributed to more than 60 publicly funded and industrial research and transfer projects and has been responsible for their acquisition and implementation. He also serves as a reviewer for the BMFTR and BMWE. He is pursuing a doctorate at KIT under Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Wilhelm Stork on “Sensorial Monitoring and Optimization of Fluid Intake in Nursing Care”
