FZI Live
Effekte Series 2026/2027
November 10, 2026 – April 13, 2027
The EFFEKTE science festival will return to Karlsruhe in 2027. The twelve-part EFFEKTE series, which begins in June 2026, is designed to help those eager for knowledge pass the time until the summer EFFEKTE Festival in 2027: On one Tuesday evening each month, researchers will present their research topics to interested citizens at Karlsruhe’s Triangel Transfer | Kultur | Raum and provide insight into Karlsruhe’s knowledge landscape. This year’s theme is “Shaping the Future: Healthcare for Tomorrow’s Society” and is based on the motto of the Year of Science 2026. FZI researchers will also be participating.
The twelve-part “Effekte” series kicks off on June 9, 2026, and will take place on “Science Tuesdays” from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Triangel Open Space at Kronenplatz, a venue for dialogue and networking, accommodates around 130 people across 320 square meters.
Depending on the weather, outdoor events are also planned on Kronenplatz in the summer.
Each event evening will feature presentations from various scientific institutions in Karlsruhe. The researchers will offer hands-on science—vivid, understandable, and absolutely up to date. The program will include a mix of keynote talks, discussions, interactive formats, exhibits, and workshops. This year’s theme is based on the “Medicine of the Future” initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the Year of Science
The City of Karlsruhe’s Office of Science has set the following dates for Science Tuesdays between June 2026 and May 2027:
2026: June 9, July 14, August 11, September 15, October 6, November 10, December 8
2027: January 19, February 16, March 16, April 13, May 11
Science Tuesdays from November 2026 to April 2027 – featuring FZI researchers
From November 10, 2026, to April 13, 2027, researchers from the FZI will also offer insights into the world of research and bring along partners from their corporate network

“Zuhören, verstehen, auswerten: Wie viel Analyse verträgt unsere Stimme?” with Dominik Beyer
Our voice often reveals more than we realize: spoken language reflects emotions, speech patterns, and social dynamics. That is why it is becoming increasingly important as a research tool in psychology and medicine. With modern AI techniques, conversations can now be systematically analyzed. However, such analyses are complex and have so far often been developed only for specific use cases. This involves not just individual words, but a multitude of acoustic nuances. The goal is to design speech research so that it functions reliably outside the laboratory and can be used responsibly. But what does it mean when AI analyzes conversations? Where do opportunities lie for psychology and medicine, and where do legitimate concerns begin? This lecture invites us to discuss the benefits, limitations, and social issues together.

“Zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen: Wo kommt Künstliche Intelligenz heute schon im Medizinbereich zum Einsatz und was kann sie?” with Sebastian Felzmann
An introduction to how AI works, featuring presentations of current research projects in the field of medical AI.
“Entwicklung eines KI-basierten Diagnoseunterstützungssystems für Ärzt*innen und Labore” with Carmen Diker (medicavalues GmbH) of de:hub-Netzwerk

“Hinter den Kulissen des Leistungsstresses: Warum härteres Training nicht immer besser ist” with Dennis Birkenmaier
Since fire department leaders are exposed to high levels of stress during their operations, it stands to reason that their training should also take place under high-stress conditions. Modern performance diagnostics contradict this assumption; instead, current psychological research indicates that optimal stress levels for training depend on the task at hand and the individual. But how can these findings be concretely integrated into practice? This question will be addressed in this presentation.
