Program day "Smart City, Mobilität & Klima" | public kickoff of Smart East 2.0
On the way to the Alter Schlachthof Climate Quarter | Event as part of RegioCOP31 Karlsruhe
How can the energy transition succeed in places where people work, experience culture, and businesses go about their daily routines—in an established neighborhood with a variety of buildings and energy needs? The project “Smart East 2.0,” funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector Baden-Württemberg, addresses precisely this issue.
The Alte Schlachthof in eastern Karlsruhe is set to become a connected climate district where electricity, heat, and mobility interact intelligently and are shared.
The Smart East 2.0 project will be presented to the public for the first time during the “Smart City, Mobilität & Klima” event. Attendees will gain insights into the project’s goals and approaches, which was launched on October 1, 2026, and learn how the Alte Schlachthof is set to become a model for a smart, community-organized, climate-focused neighborhood.
The “Smart City, Mobilität & Klima” program day is part of RegioCOP31 Karlsruhe. This regional, decentralized climate conference brings global climate policy issues down to the local level. It runs concurrently with COP31, the 31st UN Climate Change Conference, which is taking place this year in Antalya, Turkey.
