Prototypes of components with complex geometries represent a bottleneck in the development of innovative mobility solutions. Decisions regarding suitable manufacturing processes in prototype production are mostly made by domain experts based on experience, which leads to direct delays in quotation preparation and thus in product innovation cycles. ProtoKonf is developing an intelligent digital platform that automatically analyzes CAD geometries and determines and presents order-specific recommendations on costs, delivery time and CO2 footprint. The platform compares the manufacturing processes block molding Styrofoam casting and the CUBES technology, an innovative, material-efficient casting process. The latter process is being further developed and qualified experimentally in parallel to integrate it into the platform as a reproducible process option.
