Urban logistics systems today comprise a multitude of different actors and transportation modes. For the foreseeable future, we can expect this diversity to increase further. This development is primarily due to the increasing availability of new resources such as autonomous transportation vehicles, cargo bikes, or the possible inclusion of private transit in the form of crowdworkers.
Therefore, the goal of the LieferBotNet research project is to develop and test an open and modular platform concept that combines a wide variety of transport modes in an efficient overall logistics system. To this end, the FZI designs a digital platform for placing transit orders and coordinating integrated transportation resources and their shared infrastructure. Project partners design standardized hardware/software modules for transportation vehicles to integrate different transit options into the platform. Thus, the LieferBotNet system provides open platforms instead of constituting another closed vehicle system.
Within the framework of the project, the FZI is primarily responsible for developing robust planning procedures and machine learning systems devised to ensure data privacy. Moreover, the FZI designs the building blocks of the digital platform and accompanies the project with the legal analysis of relevant issues.
Intelligente Lösungen für den Transport von Menschen und Gütern für die Mobilität der Zukunft stellen einen Schwerpunkt der FZI-Forschung dar. Dazu entwickelt das FZI integrierte Mobilitätssysteme – von der Fahrzeugautomatisierung über die Anwendung von KI in Verkehrssystemen bis zur urbanen Mobilität und Logistik.
