Healthcare

Contributing to the sustainability of our healthcare system and quality of life

Better healthcare and more efficient processes are among the greatest advantages that arise from digitization and the use of information and communication technologies in healthcare. The FZI, develops innovative ICT solutions, especially in the fields of medical information technology, human-technology interaction, and healthcare logistics. Technical, economic, and social aspects are examined.

The FZI researches network structures, optimization of work processes, targeted information exchange, and expansion of digital
nursing documentation in projects. The goal is to facilitate the interdisciplinary work of the involved professional groups and family members.

In medical information technology, apps for health data, virtual coaching systems that suggest personalized care paths for patients, cutting-edge analytics procedures, and artificial intelligence models that analyze vital data or for use in tumor diagnostics are being developed.

The FZI also researches novel possibilities of human-technology interaction through robotic, (partially) autonomous assistance systems in nursing, as well as novel wearable sensor systems, such as for emergency detection.

Demographic change, the increase of chronic diseases, and the shortage of medical professionals are growing challenges for our healthcare systems.

At the same time, prevention concepts and health promotion require more resources.

Through its interdisciplinary competencies in logistics, analytics, algorithms, mathematical optimization, and simulation, the FZI makes an important contribution to the sustainability of our healthcare system, as well as to safety, self-determination, and quality of life in one’s own four walls.
