Closing gaps in the digital society with innovation

Education and continuing education, as well as training in new technologies and methodologies, are part of the FZI transfer mission. Among other things, we conduct research on transfer and preparation of knowledge. Concepts like artification and gamification – also via augmented or virtual reality – are digital strategies used at the FZI to enhance the experience around learning and knowledge acquisition. Mobile or location-based digital applications are deployed to create new instruments for media communication.

In order to provide free, publicly available access to research datasets, scientific results, knowledge and infrastructures as an independent research institution, the FZI relies on open source, open access and open data.

The FZI contributes to education, research and administration to gain and disseminate knowledge. Together with our partners, we thereby drive the digital transformation of public life. To this end, we use techniques that collaboratively expand the collective intelligence of a larger group. Our research in the area of security and legally compliant processing of (personal) information contributes in turn to ensuring that cloud-based solutions can also be used securely.

The FZI interlinks its research with digital citizen participation, digital administration, digital communication and digital business processes to better address the existing gaps in the digitized society.
